CELINE C'EST CHIC
When a flickering glass cage descended from the ceiling at the beginning of the Celine AW19 catwalk show in Paris, the last thing any one of the waiting fashionistas expected to see was an outfit inspired by the heritage of old-school Sloane Rangers and their style icon, Lady Diana Spencer, circa her engagement to Prince Charles.
Yet somehow, Celine's designer, Hedi Slimane, more famous for his rock-chick vibe, had embraced this upper-class British look and with a few twists melded it into modern day Parisian bourgeois chic.
There is something about those pleated skirts, ruffled and pussy bow blouses, silk scarves, mannish tailored coats and jackets, and those slightly slouchy boots with the faint air of the 1970s, that is so elegantly, ladylike and easy-to-wear. Just the kind of style that is so needed in fashion at the moment.
